Back to School - Taking Photography Class for Fun
Have you notice there were a lot more cars on the road since Monday? Traffic for me coming to work has been crazy lately and my normal 45 minutes commute expanded to a good one hour + drive. I think this has to do with many school has been started. I too, registered for a class in a near by community college to learn about digital photography. This is going to be my 2nd photography class experience. My 1st class was black & white photography using film SLR, it was a lot of fun developing pictures in the dark room. The only draw back is our typical lab session is about 3-4 hours long, 2 times a week & lecture for another 2 hrs also 2 times a week. I felt extremely exhausted at the end of the semester from working 40+ hrs/week adding on another 12 hrs of school. I swore that never take another night class again.
Something really tricker me to take photography class again this fall, it was something that I read from the Popular Photography Magazine about a Mom who has been taking care of 4 kids and became a professional photographer after she took some classes with their community center for once a week for about one year. Then I am thinking, even a Mom with such crazy hectic schedule can squeeze her time to fulfill her dream and found her passion, why can't I do it too? Therefore, I've decided to enrolled myself for the photography class to see if this would become my passion.
Our 1st homework assignments has 2 parts, this 1st part is to use the Aperture priority mode to shoot. I've taken a few photos of the Farmer's Market near work during lunch hour on Tuesday. I was using some hand-me-down DSLR from hubby LOL!! The Nikon D40 and its crappy kit lense. Tell me what do you think of the pictures? I would like to hear your critique & comments.
Our part 2 of the homework assignment is to use the Shutter Speed priority mode to shoot. Also, I would like to know what you like & what you don't like. Thanks!
Thanks for reading. I'll post some more on my next assignments.

wow, I have to say i like them all. the color is especially good for the first six. good job!
nice shots (:
They are great shots zab! I esp like the first 2 pictures on the top. I also like the red bell pepper picture too.
It matters more on who the photographer is than what the camera the photographer is using!! :) You can take amazing pictures with just the kit lens. :)
In the picture (shutter speed) of the duckie, I think you can isolate the duckie even more for a more dramatic image by a faster shutter speed - so it'll darken more area around the duckie, while leaving the duckie in the light. Good use of light though! :)
oh i love it! i want to take photography class too!
Hahahaha, I believe you gonna spend a lot of money on the professional equipment pretty soon when you become a pro ass. lol...
First off, some hand me down DSLR is a plus! Better then nothing! or a crappy camera... Damn I would be happy! heh... Second, your pictures are nice! I love the colorful-ness of the photos and the simplicity of it. Closeness attracts! :) They are good pictures. I took Digital Photography also, and it's super duper fun. Even though I still suck at shooting. I just love to shoot.
mom with 6 kiddos!! she's an inspiration. only 30 years old!

great job!! I can def see you becoming an awesome photographer! You have some great angles
I wanted to take classes too but we bought a house in the boondocks and there are no near by schools who offer it! :P
good job! very nice pictures.
yeah .. love the pics! we're actually thinking of buying the NIkon 40d to get into dslr photography and hopefully i'll learn to take great photos and upgrade up! i hear it's not the camera but the lenses that makes the picture.. can't wait!
@melbride - Exactly!! It's not so much about the camera the Nikon D40 is the lowest entry camera for DSLR for the brand. Actually I've heard a lot of good things about the D40 though. You should look into that. Also the Canon Rebel suppose to very good too!
@liclicbride - hi! I use the same camera too. signed up for a photography class some months ago, the teacher wasn't that good so I didn't go after the 3rd class. I like your pics (I'm not very good with colors myself), keep up the good work. you care if I subscribe to your blog?
